Job Title: Drafter II

At Sterling Engineering, we are seeking a highly skilled Drafter II to join our team. As a Drafter II, you will play a critical role in the design and development of civil and energy transmission projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Work on civil and energy transmission drafting and design projects.
  • Create base maps, site plans, and existing conditions for infrastructure and utilities.
  • Develop overall project sheet layout and criteria.
  • Utilize advanced AutoCAD skills to set up projects and relationships between drawings and other files.
  • Manage User and Geographic Coordinate Systems.
  • Follow established technical specifications to prepare drawings and assist in design drafting.
  • Consult with engineers regarding model accuracy and design parameters.
  • Keep Drafting Coordinator aware of workload and request work when needed.
  • Work from general direction, and go by projects and other sources to produce computer-generated graphs, charts, overlays, and drawings.
  • Collaborate with drafting, design, and engineering teams, as well as Project Managers.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and understanding of Geographic Coordinate Systems.
  • Ability to analyze sketches, notes, and other input material to determine the best approach for the completion of drawings.
  • Advanced level of training and experience using AutoCAD as a primary function of work.
  • Intermediate or Advanced level of training and experience using Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering, surveying, and/or experience working with engineering firms.
  • Ability to create basic 3D objects in Civil 3D, such as points, surfaces, alignments, and profiles.
  • Understanding and ability to edit and apply Styles within Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with the use of measuring tools, such as laser meters, rulers, and levels.
  • Proven experience in solving complex problems, identifying alternative solutions, and implementing recommendations to support goals.
  • Ability to lead a small team of drafters to complete project tasks.
Required Experience and Education:
  • Minimum of Associate of Arts and Science in Engineering, Drafting, Design, Graphic Arts, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience using AutoCAD as a primary function of job or studies.
  • Prefer knowledge and experience with AutoCAD release 2013, but will consider candidates with experience with older versions.
Travel:

Position requires travel (expected to be less than 10%); valid driver's license and acceptable DMV record required.
