This role presents a stimulating and fulfilling opportunity to manage significant planning initiatives and evaluations while offering leadership, support, and mentorship to applicants, guiding urban planners, and collaborating with internal stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist developers throughout the application journey, ensuring adherence to regulations and delivering high-quality results.
  • Advocate for the safeguarding of our town's cultural heritage and built environment, incorporating conservation principles into planning choices.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to ensure their feedback influences development processes.
  • Shape the Town's local planning framework to realize outcomes outlined in the Council's strategies and plans.
  • Deliver professional and prompt advice, guidance, and information on various planning matters to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ensure the Town consistently strives to achieve sustainable urban planning results.
  • Support the coordination of tasks for the Urban Planning team.
  • Provide supervisory and mentoring support for the planners within the Town.

Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent).
  • Current National Police Clearance (issued within the last 6 months).
  • Thorough understanding of the existing WA Planning Framework.
  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated and natural leadership style; ability to lead, collaborate, and foster positive working relationships.
  • Capability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Analytical thinking skills.
  • Proficient negotiation abilities.
  • Proven understanding of high-quality Customer Service principles.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in urban and regional planning within Local or State Government is preferred.
  • Experience participating in hearings and meetings such as State Administrative Tribunal, Development Assessment Panels, or similar is preferred.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $94,000 - $106,000 (pro-rata for part-time) per annum based on qualifications and experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
