Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Urban Planner to join our team at the City of Lake Forest Park. As a key member of our Community Development Department, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our city through strategic planning, policy development, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive plans, zoning regulations, and land use policies that align with the city's vision and goals.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to city officials, developers, and the public on planning and zoning matters.
  • Conduct site visits, research, and analysis to inform planning decisions and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare and present reports, recommendations, and presentations to the Planning Commission, City Council, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other city departments, county agencies, and state organizations to advance planning initiatives and resolve complex issues.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community groups, developers, and other stakeholders to build support for planning initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing regulations, laws, and best practices in urban planning and apply this knowledge to inform planning decisions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, geography, economics, political science, or a related field.
  • At least four years of experience in urban planning or a related profession.
  • Master's degree in urban planning or a related field preferred.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Accela or other permit tracking software preferred.
Working Conditions

The position works in a standard office environment; field inspections are performed in all weather conditions. Evening work is frequently required, and weekend work may be necessary on occasion. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
