POSITION:
Transportation Specialist/Outreach Worker

PROGRAM/ DIVISION:
Shelter Hotline Program/ Community Health Division

HOURLY RATE:
$20.00 per hour

OPENING DATE:

MAJOR DUTIES:


The Transportation Specialist/Outreach Worker is responsible for operating UPO Shelter Hotline vehicles to transport clients along assigned routes and designated service points.

Duties include providing outreach and transportation to available shelters for homeless individuals and families, canvassing city streets to identify at-risk clients in need of assistance, and communicating with hotline dispatchers via two-way radio to acquire necessary resources.

Additionally, the role involves working closely with local emergency services to facilitate the safe transition of clients from the streets to shelters, ensuring passenger safety and compliance with all safety protocols.

Responsibilities also include assisting with the delivery of essential items such as blankets, food, and beverages.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED is required, along with two years of experience operating a 25-passenger vehicle.

Applicants must possess a current CDL driver's license (A or B class) with passenger endorsement, air brakes, and a clean driving record with no more than two points over the past five years.

Candidates should be prepared to work varied schedules, including nights and weekends, and must demonstrate strong geographic knowledge of Washington, DC.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to work sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

First-Aid & CPR certification is preferred. Bilingual candidates, particularly in Spanish, are encouraged to apply.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


Successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening as part of the hiring process.


This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Additionally, yearly tuberculosis testing is required.
