We are committed to our mission: "To assist individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by providing shelter, housing, and fostering personal growth and independence."

Role Purpose

Under the supervision of the Manager of Shelter Operations, the Shelter Support Coordinator is responsible for registering and overseeing the safety, organization, and management of shelter residents, on-site Recovery Support Specialists, and volunteers. This role involves collaboration with other shelters and social service providers in the New Haven area to create an environment that embodies the principles of Trauma-Informed Care: Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration, and Empowerment.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience supervising adults in a residential environment.
  • Proven ability to manage, motivate, and guide clients; strong time management and organizational skills are essential.
  • Preferred knowledge of residential services for the homeless population.
  • Awareness of mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis issues; familiarity with local service providers; computer proficiency.
  • Culturally competent and capable of fostering teamwork.
  • Understanding of crisis intervention, confidentiality, boundaries, and universal precautions.
  • Ability to promote a Harm Reduction approach within the workplace.
  • Strong empathetic skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in all required meetings with Columbus House and network partners.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including charts, logs, and incident reports; manage intake, departures, and daily roster.
  • Supervise residents to ensure adherence to house rules.
  • Assist in maintaining the security of the shelter facility.
  • Adhere to scheduled shift start times and remain on duty until relieved.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervision: Reports to the Manager of Shelter Operations

Compensation: $17.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6 PM to 10 PM
