Engineering Technician II Position

Job Summary
This position is responsible for working within a Lands Engineering Unit to fulfill the New Mexico Department of Transportation's obligation to survey transportation projects. The Engineering Technician II administers resources, operational activities, and assists a team lead and supervisor to ensure delivery of products and services.
Key Responsibilities
Checking and verifying survey data and calculations utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) and Conventional survey instruments along with Civil-3D Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) to perform the responsibilities of tasks given.
Utilizing maps, plans, survey data, and Geographic Information System (GIS) data in order to search and/or perform survey calculations in the field/office to assist in the completion of surveying and mapping activities.
Planning and performing field work for various types of surveys and upon completion reduces field notes and processes electronic survey data to prepare project deliverables.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of relevant experience. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, and snow. May include exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects, and reptiles, noxious plants, and infected trash; moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals, and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, high speed/high volume traffic, and loud noises, and confined spaces; falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances. Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
