POSITION SUMMARY: The Housing Specialist is responsible for executing a variety of programmatic tasks, which include assessing applications for eligibility, confirming participant status to ensure ongoing qualification, preparing documentation, and verifying information in accordance with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards. Familiarity with housing processes may involve responsibilities such as eligibility assessments, lease management, annual re-certifications, interim adjustments, portability, relocations, rent modifications, rent reasonableness evaluations, hearing preparations, and terminations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts assigned program activities and transactions efficiently.
  • Completes tasks accurately and within designated timeframes.
  • Responds to inquiries from participants, property owners, applicants, and the public with utmost professionalism.
  • Ensures all activities comply with nondiscrimination policies.
  • Maintains productivity records.
  • Evaluates eligibility for program participation.
  • Reviews applications, verifications, and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness; ensures proper distribution of required documentation.
  • Establishes and maintains individual applicant/participant files, safeguarding all personally identifiable information (PII) with the highest confidentiality.
  • Performs precise and timely data entry to keep computer records updated.
  • Collaborates with Supervisors, Managers, Inspectors, and colleagues to coordinate activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must obtain Housing Choice Voucher Specialist certification within one year of employment.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a role requiring significant public interaction or customer service, with a background in accounting, mortgage processing, or direct customer engagement being advantageous.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
