Adjunct Faculty Position: University Supervisor in Art Education

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts), specifically within the Department of Art Education, is creating a candidate pool for potential adjunct faculty roles as University Supervisors.

The University Supervisor acts as the intermediary between the Department of Art Education and the K-12 educational institutions where teacher candidates are placed for their student-teaching experiences.

Responsibilities include instructing and overseeing teacher candidates during their practical clinical experiences in a suitable academic setting, providing written assessments of student teachers, visiting their assigned school locations, and collaborating with cooperating educators.

The primary role of the University Supervisor is to offer guidance to teacher candidates in their journey to develop teaching proficiency while supporting the cooperating educators.

This candidate pool may be utilized for temporary staffing needs, to provide specialized teaching expertise, or to address unique programmatic requirements not otherwise met within the program.

Applicants will remain in consideration until further notice, and evaluations will occur only when an adjunct opportunity becomes available.


Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Art Education or an equivalent combination of education, professional experience, and training, including a minimum of 5 years of recent experience in K-12 Art.
  • Valid Virginia teaching certificate.
  • Familiarity with contemporary teaching methodologies.
  • Experience in observing and assessing teaching effectiveness.
  • Ability to engage with the public in a friendly, cooperative, and collaborative manner.
  • Willingness to travel to various school locations within the designated area.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess academic qualifications and experience in education, having successfully taught at the levels they supervise. We are particularly interested in supervisors with prior teaching experience in K-12 Art.
