Position Overview

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts), specifically within the Department of Art Education, is creating a pool of candidates for potential adjunct faculty roles as University Supervisors.

The University Supervisor acts as the intermediary between the Department of Art Education and the K-12 educational institutions where teacher candidates undertake their student-teaching experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and oversight to teacher candidates during their practical clinical experiences in a suitable academic setting.
  • Conduct written evaluations of student teachers, visit their assigned school locations, and engage in discussions with cooperating educators.
  • Facilitate the professional growth of teacher candidates by offering guidance in developing teaching competencies and supporting cooperating teachers.

This applicant pool may be utilized for temporary staffing needs, to provide specialized teaching expertise, or to address unique programmatic requirements that are not otherwise met within the program.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Art Education or an equivalent combination of education, professional experience, and training, including a minimum of five years of recent experience in K-12 Art.
  • Possession of a valid Virginia teaching certificate.
  • Familiarity with contemporary teaching methodologies.
  • Experience in observing and assessing teaching effectiveness.
  • Ability to engage positively and collaboratively with the public.
  • Willingness to travel to various school environments within the designated area.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess academic credentials and practical experience in education, having successfully taught at the levels they supervise. We are particularly interested in supervisors with prior teaching experience in K-12 Art.
