The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) Department of Music is creating a candidate pool for potential adjunct teaching roles.

This candidate pool may be utilized to fill temporary teaching needs, provide specialized instructional expertise, or address unique programmatic requirements not currently met within the department.


Applicants will only be evaluated when an adjunct position becomes available.

Potential adjunct roles may involve teaching courses in various disciplines offered by the Department of Music.

Adjunct faculty members are expected to be engaged and proactive contributors to the Music community, demonstrating a commitment to collaborating with a diverse student body in an inclusive and learning-focused environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Music, Music Education, Music Theory, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant teaching experience and/or strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience in fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to doing so as a faculty member.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas such as Voice, Winds and Percussion, Strings, Piano, Jazz, and other relevant fields.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate in Music or Music Education.
  • Experience in teaching applied lessons across various skill levels.
  • Willingness to assist with recruitment, semester assessments, and support the Music department's vision and student development.
