FULL-TIME LEGAL SUPPORT COORDINATOR I

Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Legal Support Coordinator I to enhance our operations. This role is pivotal in assisting individuals with criminal histories who face challenges in securing employment.

The Legal Support Coordinator I will be responsible for managing outreach initiatives, client intake processes, and the allocation of cases to our legal staff and volunteer attorneys. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to provide comprehensive support to clients, volunteers, and attorneys, as well as involvement in grant management.

Key Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and time management capabilities, with the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
  • Empathy and sensitivity in responding to individuals in distress.
  • Commitment to assisting marginalized populations in overcoming barriers to legal access.
  • Creative thinking, strategic planning, sound judgment, and self-motivation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct client screenings and intake at various community locations, ensuring proper documentation and eligibility assessment.
  • Engage in client interviews and investigative work.
  • Support attorneys in case preparation, including legal research and drafting documents, adhering to legal and ethical standards.
  • Maintain accurate data records and manage client files.
  • Implement outreach strategies, including creating promotional materials and educational resources on legal rights.
  • Build and maintain relationships with court personnel, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteer attorneys to assist clients in need of legal services.
  • Assist in organizing and executing pro bono legal clinics.
  • Participate in clinics to support clients and volunteers.
  • Survey clients and community members to identify needs for service expansion.

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience working with low-income and marginalized communities.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Personal experience within client communities is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices is preferred.
  • Proficient in Google Drive/GSuite, Microsoft Word, and Excel; experience with database management is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation is based on experience, following a structured pay scale with annual increments. The starting salary for a Legal Support Coordinator I with no prior experience is $33,670, while those with ten years of experience may earn up to $45,170.
