Job Overview

TOUR:

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The staff nurse in the Adult Emergency Department is responsible for delivering critical care and continuous monitoring for a diverse patient population with various medical and surgical conditions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adult Emergency Department

Responsibilities Include:

· Assessing and distinguishing between physical and psychosocial signs and symptoms.

· Selecting and executing essential therapeutic interventions to ensure effective nursing care for assigned patients.

· Developing, implementing, and continually assessing the nursing care plan for assigned patients.

· Documenting and maintaining nursing care plans and progress notes to guarantee continuity of care.

· Interpreting and communicating patient responses to relevant members of the healthcare team.

· Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to design a comprehensive patient care strategy.

· Determining and delegating nursing tasks that can be performed by allied nursing staff.

· Providing instruction, guidance, and support to allied nursing personnel in delivering patient care.

· Engaging in the definition, implementation, maintenance, and interpretation of nursing practice standards.

· Participating in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings regarding policies and procedures that impact nursing practice.

· Contributing to the identification of conditions, resources, and policies necessary for effective nursing care delivery.

· Assisting in the development and maintenance of a nursing care evaluation system, including the assessment of nursing personnel.

· Communicating the philosophy and objectives of the agency and Nursing Department to patients, families, and other stakeholders.

· Maintaining professional competence through ongoing education and relevant learning experiences.

· Performing additional professional nursing duties as assigned by nursing service administration.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and

Must hold or obtain, through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR).
