Job Overview

SHIFT:

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The staff nurse in the Adult Emergency Department is responsible for delivering critical care and ongoing monitoring for a diverse patient population presenting with various medical and surgical conditions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adult Emergency Department

Responsibilities Include:

· Assessing and differentiating between physical and psychosocial signs and symptoms.

· Selecting and executing essential therapeutic interventions for effective nursing care of assigned patients.

· Developing, implementing, and continuously assessing the nursing care plan for assigned patients.

· Documenting and maintaining nursing care plans and progress notes to ensure continuity of care.

· Interpreting and communicating patient responses to appropriate healthcare team members.

· Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to design a comprehensive patient care strategy.

· Determining and delegating nursing tasks that can be performed by auxiliary nursing staff.

· Providing education, guidance, and oversight to auxiliary nursing personnel in patient care delivery.

· Engaging in the definition, implementation, maintenance, and interpretation of nursing practice standards.

· Participating in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings related to nursing policies and procedures.

· Contributing to the identification of conditions, resources, and policies necessary for effective nursing care delivery.

· Assisting in the development and maintenance of a nursing care evaluation system, including the assessment of nursing staff.

· Communicating the philosophy and objectives of the organization and Nursing Department to patients, families, and other stakeholders.

· Maintaining professional development through ongoing education and relevant learning experiences.

· Performing additional professional nursing duties as assigned by nursing administration.

Minimum Qualifications

A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and

Must hold or obtain, through facility orientation, valid and current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR).

Special Note:
For roles in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit. In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR).
