We are currently in search of a Senior Optical Systems Engineer with experience in the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) to deliver Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) services. This role is integral to supporting a rapidly evolving Government Intelligence Community (IC) client, focusing on complex space and ground initiatives as part of innovative programs. The position entails providing technical support to a System Program Office (SPO) in the planning, execution, monitoring, and oversight of satellite system development and acquisitions, aimed at enhancing the NRO's space resilience.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong proficiency in radiometry and photometry, along with experience in payload acquisition, to offer specialized engineering, analysis, and support for advanced space technology projects. Responsibilities will include conducting technical analyses of cutting-edge optical systems, sensors, and image processing methodologies across various phenomenologies, as well as performing high-level technology and CONOP evaluations for future systems. The role will also involve system-level analysis of concepts, engagement in new space systems, and the planning, execution, and assessment of experiments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist government entities in acquisition, source selection, and programmatic processes.
  • Collaborate with Contract Officer/Contract Officer Technical Representatives (CO/COTRs) and developers, coordinating with technical domain Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and program stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive understanding of systems, designs, and interfaces required to meet specifications.
  • Engage in technical interchange meetings between developers and COTR.
  • Monitor the development of optical systems throughout all phases, from design and integration to testing, validation, and delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated technical experience in optical system design, development, manufacturing, and testing.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a SETA or embedded integrator capacity.
  • Proven background in space acquisition processes.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and client engagement skills.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or a related field in optics or imaging science, coupled with 9 or more years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 7 or more years of relevant experience.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly.
  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for this position.
