SUPERVISOR: FACILITY MANAGER

LOCATION: BROOKLYN, NY

SALARY RANGE: $40,000 - $45,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing a variety of essential repairs and maintenance tasks for both the interior and exterior of a 200-bed men's homeless shelter. This role involves troubleshooting and addressing issues related to plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, carpentry, and general repairs. The technician will also fill in for custodial duties as needed and will report directly to the Lead Mechanic. Work hours may vary based on facility needs, including weekends and evenings. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations is mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist external contractors, inspectors, and other visitors, and manage deliveries as required.
  • Oversee all repair tasks within the building and on the premises.
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical and plumbing issues, including outlets, switches, light fixtures, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Conduct HVAC troubleshooting and maintenance, including cleaning units and replacing filters.
  • Repair damaged drywall and plaster, and perform painting as necessary.
  • Manage repairs and replacements of windows, doors, locks, and flooring; assemble and repair room furniture.
  • Address any damage caused by clients to rooms, furniture, or fixtures.
  • Handle all mechanical tasks during room turnovers and for work orders in occupied rooms.
  • Complete preventative maintenance checklists as instructed by the Supervisor.
  • Assist with the transfer or storage of residents' belongings as needed.
  • Perform custodial duties in the absence of the Custodian/Driver.
  • Drive agency vehicles to transport clients and materials when required.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A High School Diploma or GED is required, with proficiency in English and Math. Technical training from a Trade/Technical School is advantageous. A minimum of two years of mechanical experience, along with familiarity with floor care equipment and procedures, is necessary. A valid NYS Driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
