Construction Engineering Inspector

We are seeking a skilled Construction Engineering Inspector to join our team in Virginia. As a key member of our Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) group, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction projects are completed in accordance with contract specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Key Responsibilities- Perform complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.
- Provide on-site contract compliance inspection for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects, schedule/budget monitoring, and quality assurance for projects.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, supervisors, DOT, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Ensure construction is completed according to contract specifications, including monitoring each phase of work.
- Use tools of the trade assigned, including measuring and reporting progress information.
- Perform on-site testing as needed, including soils, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, etc.
- Understand inspection requirements per project/construction method.
- Responsible for driving a company vehicle to and from client projects.
- Identify potential issues and report them to the contractor and project engineer.
- Provide progress reports to project engineers and supervisors.
- Perform specific quality system tasks as defined in the quality manual.
- Check stormwater management practices and erosion/sediment controls to ensure compliance.
- Conform to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and company policies.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
- High School graduate with transportation construction training/experience in bridge and/or roadway construction, or coursework in civil engineering, project management, or materials.
- OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Working knowledge of basic mathematics, including linear and cubic measurements, and computations related to algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Computer knowledge with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to use tools of the trade assigned with knowledge of materials and methods used in specific projects.
- Certification(s) from at least one or more of the following: Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) or Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VADEQ) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Must be able to follow and carry out specific instructions on an independent basis.
- Must be able to interpret and implement company-mandated safety policies.
- Must understand construction surveying procedures and principles.
- Safety: Apply safety protocol in all cases, including working in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites.
- Valid driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history required.
- Position requires a minimum of 40 hours a week with the possibility of overtime (Hourly).
