Job Title: Sterile & Hazardous Compounding Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary:

The Sterile & Hazardous Compounding Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective preparation of medications in our hospital and infusion clinic settings. This position assists pharmacists in preparing, ordering, and distributing IV medications, as well as performing technical and clerical duties to support the daily operation of the Pharmacy department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the accurate preparation and distribution of medications.
  • Prepare and handle chemotherapy, hazardous products, blood products, and other medications in a safe manner.
  • Perform accurate product selection, dosage calculations, and compounding of agents.
  • Prepare IV or other medications using aseptic technique for administration by nursing staff.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and proper billing, labeling, compounding, and packaging.
  • Obtain pharmacist verification and deliver medications in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.
  • Prepare and batch IV admixtures according to policies and procedures.
  • Manage inventory of supplies related to sterile compounding.
  • Verify inventory received against the invoice and communicate exceptions to the supervisor or pharmacy inventory coordinator.
  • Maintain and clean equipment necessary to perform duties.
  • Under the supervision of a pharmacist, maintain daily logs and outdate monitoring as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Replenish floor stock medications by nursing units according to department policy and procedure.
  • Receive, dispense, and deliver controlled substances following policies and procedures.
  • Accurately bill and credit medication charges as necessary.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Pharmacy Technician license through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy.
  • Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT) through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy, National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA), and Sterile and Hazardous compounding certification.
  • Minimum one (1) year hospital pharmacy technician and/or three (3) years pharmacy technician experience.
Work Environment:

This position requires working in a fast-paced hospital and infusion clinic environment, with frequent exposure to medications, chemicals, and other hazardous materials. The ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to perform the job safely.
