Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Specialist to join our team at the City of Rio Rancho, NM. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing recreation programs, classes, and special events that promote a healthy lifestyle for all residents, including those 55+ and those with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recreation programs, classes, and special events that meet the needs of the community
  • Conduct research on available recreation programs based on community needs and interests
  • Coordinate and prepare materials, supplies, equipment, and facilities needed for program implementation
  • Maintain and order supplies, repair program equipment/facilities, and maintain inventory control
  • Coordinate utilization of recreation leaders, volunteers, and support staff for programs
  • Develop and conduct staff training on recreation programs and activities, ADA guidelines, emergency care, and related topics
  • Oversee preparation of monthly data and evaluation reports of recreation and education programs
  • Develop operational manuals, promotional materials, and public presentations in support of programs
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, Physical Education, Gerontology, or related field
  • At least two years of experience coordinating and planning recreational programs or social/community projects related to senior programs
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
  • National Recreation and Parks Association Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification or therapeutic recreation certification
  • ACE, TRX, Aqua Zumba, NASM, ACSM, AFAA Fitness Trainer certification
