Job Title: Senior Engineer - Design Transmission/Civil

Job Summary:

NV Energy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer - Design Transmission/Civil to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive civil/structural engineering design services for substation and/or transmission facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop civil engineering expertise to develop substation/civil plans for sitework, including grading, off-site improvements, drainage facilities, fencing and block walls, and landscaping.
  • Complete calculations and prepare designs for substation steel structures, foundations, and control enclosures.
  • Provide civil engineering expertise to transmission line engineering analysis, route analysis and selection, calculations for line design (includes structure loading, foundation design and conductor sag), specifies materials and evaluates bid documents and technical submittals, and completes the construction package.
  • Acquire all necessary construction approvals and permits from the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Develop economical, technically feasible, reliable transmission and substation civil/structural designs with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Select and widely apply engineering principles, theories and concepts in the design of transmission, and substation civil projects.
  • Independently scope, route, and site substation and transmission line projects and evaluate alternatives in order to find best value.
  • Provide mentoring, leadership, training and direction to fellow staff members, and provide technical design and project peer review.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates and schedule input for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified.
  • Evaluate, benchmark, and make recommendations for the creation and improvements of substation and transmission standards and specifications.
  • Perform studies, prepare and provide written and oral reports to management and internal and external customers.
  • Coordinate and interact professionally with internal and external customers and stakeholders to ensure a successful project.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited school and 5 years industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license then must have 8+ years as a practicing engineer.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of utility setting with specific experience in the areas of civil, structural and/or transmission engineering design.
  • Civil experience of substation/switchyard site development or related design.
  • Structural experience involving substation steel design or transmission pole design for projects up to 230kV.
  • Transmission line design experience including overhead line design up to 230kV or underground line design up to 230kV.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

General office environment. Travel may be required up to 25% of work hours and may consist of travel to remote parts of Nevada in order to scope substation sites or transmission alignments and support design and construction. Walking over rugged terrain at high elevation may be required.

Compensation:

Annual Salary: $98, Min) to $115, Mid); Up to 15% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
