Job Title: Direct Support Professional II (DSP II)

Join The Arc Erie County NY team as a Direct Support Professional II (DSP II) and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities.

About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to provide hourly supervision to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes while their primary caregivers attend to family errands, personal business, or social activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide person-centered assistance and training in areas such as activities of daily living, self-care skills, money management, cooking, and self-administration of medication.
  • Assure the overall safety of individuals through maintaining safety standards, familiarity with emergency safety procedures, and providing regular training.
  • Intervene with individuals' inappropriate and potentially injurious behaviors in the least restrictive manner possible, while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Transport individuals to medical appointments, recreation activities, and other scheduled events as needed.
  • Document the provision of services, skill acquisitions, and supports daily, contemporaneously, and consistently with the Staff Action Plan and Agency procedures.
  • Assist individuals with personal monies and shopping needs.
  • Provide first aid when necessary and address routine health care needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment by completing housekeeping and minor maintenance tasks and providing training and assistance to individuals.
  • Provide input to the treatment team in the development of a person-centered plan.
  • Assist in the assessment of an individual's skills and behavior.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, trainings, supervisory conferences, and any other assigned meetings.
  • Check agency email regularly, update supervisor on changes in contact information, maintain communication, complete online training modules in a timely fashion.
  • Follow the DSP Core Competencies expectations for completing evaluations.
  • Assist individuals with community integration by providing support and training.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Human Services experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, be perceptive/comprehensive, show good judgment, have good math & decision-making skills, independent action, planning, and prioritizing, and follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals in a positive manner, demonstrate the ability to be a leader and serve as an appropriate role model to individuals.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
