Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Specialist 1 to join our team at the New York State Department of Transportation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of work on construction projects and reviewing technical accuracy of plans and documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements and specifications
  • Review technical accuracy of plans and documentation in contracts and proposals
  • Supervise and train subordinate engineers, technicians, and seasonal Transportation Construction Inspectors
  • Assignments may include material production and plant inspection, material design and testing, pavement and bridge deck coring, and technical document preparation
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering or engineering technology related to transportation infrastructure work
  • Substitution of 30 semester hours of training for a technical institute, community college, or college in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, construction technology, engineering, physical, or applied sciences on a year-for-year basis, up to four years
  • Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law
Working Conditions

This position may include the possibility of short- and long-term duration travel throughout the Region. Overnight stay, night work, overtime, and weekend work may be required. The incumbent may be required to report to a remote office, plant, or remote construction sites.
