This role will be responsible for organizing and planning the Spring 2024 Big XII on the Hill Conference, serving as a political liaison to the Student Body President, the Student Executive Committee, and the Student Senate on community, state, and national issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • 30% - Conference Planning: Organize and plan the Spring 2024 Big XII on the Hill Conference, ensuring a successful and engaging event for attendees.
  • 20% - Liaison Services: Serve as a political liaison to the Student Body President, the Student Executive Committee, and the Student Senate, providing support and guidance on community, state, and national issues.
  • 19% - Legislative and Policy-Making Functions: Attend legislative and policy-making functions of various bodies, including the Board of Regents, Governor of Kansas, the Kansas Legislature, the United States Congress, and community and campus activist groups.
  • 10% - Networking Event Planning: Plan the Holidays and Higher Ed networking event in November or December, connecting students with KU administration, local, and state leaders.
  • 10% - Legislative Agenda Formulation: Develop a legislative agenda for the Kansas Board of Regents Higher Education Day and Big XII on the Hill in Washington, D.C.
  • 5% - Nonpartisan Political Education: Direct and organize nonpartisan political education of the student body, including candidate debates, voter registration efforts, get-out-the-vote drives, voter guides, policy forums, and other functions.
  • 2% - Information Relay: Relay relevant information obtained from legislative and policy-making functions to the Student's Assembly and the President's Cabinet.
  • 2% - Ex-Officio Membership: Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Students Assembly and Student Executive Council.
  • 2% - Additional Tasks: Perform other tasks as assigned by the Student Senate Constitution, the Student Body President, the Student Executive Council, or the Student's Assembly.

Required Qualifications

  • Enrollment in no fewer than 6 credit hours during the semester term of the appointment.
  • For summer periods, meet one of the following criteria: enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester, pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours, enrolled in summer session, or admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with political awareness activities.
