Position Title: Accounting Assistant

Reports To: Controller

Role Summary: The Accounting Assistant plays a crucial role in managing both accounts payable and accounts receivable, while also providing support to the Controller in various accounting tasks. A professional demeanor is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify and reconcile invoices against receiving documents, ensuring proper approval before processing payments.
  • Handle the payment of miscellaneous invoices.
  • Generate checks for disbursement.
  • Attach checks to corresponding invoices and submit them to the Controller for approval.
  • Record receivable checks into the appropriate accounts.
  • Conduct reconciliations across multiple accounts.
  • Maintain and update various Excel spreadsheets.
  • Process daily bank deposits efficiently.
  • Make necessary journal entries related to daily sales activities.
  • Manage petty cash, ensuring an adequate supply of change.
  • Complete all required training as directed by the supervisor.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent, along with some coursework in accounting or finance.

Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in general office duties and accounting or finance roles.

Special Skills: Proficient in reading and understanding instructions quickly. Strong mathematical skills are essential. Familiarity with personal computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software, is required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This position frequently involves working on a computer or engaging in tasks requiring close vision. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating a cash register and handling cash. Occasionally, the role may require lifting materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
