Academic General Faculty Position in Engineering and Society

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified individual to join our team as an Academic General Faculty member in the Department of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia. This tenure-ineligible position involves teaching and service to the department, university, and professional community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach three courses per semester as part of the Science, Technology, and Society Program in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
  • Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the program's goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the department's research and service initiatives.
  • Mentor students and provide guidance on their academic and professional development.
Requirements

Candidates must have a strong background in STS, Philosophical Ethics, Anthropology, Engineering Education, or related fields. A PhD is required for professorial ranks, while candidates without a PhD will be considered for Lecturer ranks.

Evidence of a commitment to high-impact scholarship, undergraduate-level teaching and advising excellence, professional and university service, and mentoring is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with teaching interests in character development, macro and micro ethics and values, technology ethics, STS or social dimensions of engineering practice, or ethics for engineering professionals are preferred.

A record of teaching excellence and experience with the Engineering Character Strength Initiative are also highly valued.
