Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Drive the full life cycle design and development process to identify competitive, efficient, and elegant power electronic designs.
  • System Requirements: Participate in system requirements identification, flow-down, and functional allocation.
  • Design Execution: Execute detailed design stages, including early design and development processes, design reviews, and resulting in design acceptance with deliverable documentation packages.
  • Hardware and Firmware Design: Capture approved hardware designs in printed wiring board layouts using state-of-the-art CAD tools and demonstrate the design satisfies the identified requirements and expectations during large-scale system integration exercises and requirement verification stages.
  • Firmware Development: Use integrated development environments to capture related firmware as part of the design and to aid in hardware test procedure development.
  • Testing and Qualification: Test and qualify the hardware/firmware design by applying advanced hardware-in-the-loop test methods to support integration with larger systems of systems.
  • System Integration: Support test cell and field testing of prototype systems to demonstrate final design.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline, Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years related experience for a Level 3, additional experience and/or education and competencies required for higher level jobs.
Preferred Skills
  • Design Experience: Design experience in analog, digital, power, and battery systems.
  • CAD Tools: Knowledge and use of CAD tools for schematic capture, layout, and generating procurement documentation.
  • Embedded Systems: Expertise in both low-voltage and high-voltage systems as well as battery systems involving Lithium-based battery technologies.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to work within or lead a technical team.
  • Hands-on Experience: Be hands-on, exhibit a solid understanding of electronics concepts, and possess a proven ability to build, troubleshoot, and integrate hardware/firmware with larger, more complex systems.
Working Environment

This position will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. Periodic travel to remote locations may be required in support of testing as part of a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists.

We are an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serve as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.
