Job Summary

The Director of Community Engagement serves on the leadership team at Arbor Terrace Prince William Commons and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing multiple engagement programs geared towards meeting the physical and cognitive needs of residents. This role involves supervising staff that implements such programs, planning and promoting calendars of activities that are responsive to residents' interests, abilities, individuality, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Build, support, direct, and retain a high-performing team of engagement coordinators and assistants through effective hiring, training, and coaching.
  • Engagement Program Development: Develop, implement, and oversee a robust engagement program in accordance with Arbor guidelines to meet the needs of all residents, collaborating with the Executive Director and Regional or VP of Engagement as needed.
  • Resident Engagement: Maintain updated Resident Social Profiles for all residents and build and support a team of volunteers through effective recruiting and training.
  • Communication: Maintain excellent communication with families regarding the level and quality of engagement participation of their loved ones, respecting privacy and HIPAA laws.
  • Collaboration: Maintain excellent communication and a collaborative and open relationship with other department heads, co-workers, the Executive Director, and corporate partners.
  • Technology: Successful use of, and competency with, community's data management tools and computer systems.
  • Transportation: Drive community vehicle (van or bus) to escort residents on outings.
  • Compliance: Support Executive Director and other department heads in implementing departmental compliance measures.
  • Rotating Manager: Rotating manager on duty obligations during scheduled weekends.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of experience working with seniors.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience supervising others.
  • Knowledge: Awareness of the social and emotional needs of seniors, awareness of dementia and its effects on cognitive functioning, basic knowledge of computer systems, particularly Outlook and Word.
  • Licenses: Valid driver's license and safe driving record; ability to drive community vehicle.
  • Compliance: Compliance with Arbor community-wide job requirements.
