Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at WMCHealth. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for processing and analyzing biological specimens, following established protocols for quality assurance and quality improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and special analysis of specimens according to established protocol, consistently seeking opportunities to improve workflow efficiencies and expedite patient care.
  • Recognize abnormal or inconsistent test results and follow through accordingly, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Review and release reports as necessary, following protocol for critical/panic values.
  • Perform quality control procedures according to established protocol, identifying and addressing any issues or trends.
  • Participate in department-based Quality Improvement projects, collaborating with colleagues to drive continuous improvement.
  • Assist with test method comparisons, correlation studies, and other validation studies for new or current test systems, providing technical expertise and support.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance of departmental equipment/instruments, maintaining inventory and communicating effectively with supervisors to ensure continuity of patient testing.
  • Recognize and troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and reagent problems, taking independent action to resolve issues and ensure uninterrupted testing.
  • Act as a technical resource for students, technical staff, physicians, and other professional staff, providing education and support as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education programs, expanding knowledge in the field and staying up-to-date with the latest developments and technologies.
  • Interface with clinicians during off-hours, answering questions and providing information related to laboratory tests, procedures, and specimen collection.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Technology or a related field, with current licensure in New York State as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Verification of pending application to NYS as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and a Limited Permit to Practice Clinical Laboratory Technology, as applicable.
  • Certification in a national accrediting agency, preferred.
