Key Responsibilities of the Role

The US FOODS Retail Sales Representative PT plays a crucial role in fostering an environment of outstanding customer service, supporting the US FOODS mission: Exceptional Food, Made Accessible. Our team is essential in promoting and embodying the US FOODS Cultural Values: Deliver Excellence, Minimize Waste, Collaborate for Success, Communicate Openly, and Your Voice Matters.

As an integral member of our workforce, you will undertake various responsibilities, including Cashier, Stocker, and Customer Service roles, and must be dedicated to service excellence, demonstrating this commitment in every aspect of your job. Throughout your shift, you may be assigned to different departments based on customer and business needs. Under the guidance of store management, you may work in any or all of the following areas: at the front end of the store, selling products, and assisting customers during the checkout process.

  • Engaging with customers in our Meat/Frozen department, Produce/Dairy department, and Dry Goods/Culinary Equipment & Supply department.
  • Restocking merchandise and ensuring proper product rotation across all departments.
  • Assisting during special store events, such as Vendor Fairs, sales floor resets, and inventory counts.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Front End:

  • Ensure every customer enjoys an exceptional US FOODS experience by building and nurturing relationships with store patrons.
  • Apply all skills and knowledge gained through US FOODS training and exemplify this behavior in the store.
  • Conduct sales and cash transactions at the POS system accurately and efficiently, including scanning items, weighing products, and resolving scanning issues.
  • Verify that each item's barcode is correctly represented in the system and report any discrepancies to the Front End Lead or Manager of the Day.
  • Oversee cart-to-cart transfers of products at checkout, ensuring a thorough inspection for product integrity.
  • Perform opening and closing tasks at the front end as assigned.

Sales Floor and Stocking:

  • Maintain a strong focus on boosting sales and managing inventory shrinkage. Assist customers in locating products and informing them of additional services available in the store.
  • Help receive inventory shipments and keep shelves stocked and organized while ensuring proper product rotation and quality checks. Notify management of low stock levels.
  • Ensure all merchandise is accurately labeled, including tagging unscannable items and applying weight labels as necessary.
  • Replenish the sales floor daily by moving stock from top shelves, ensuring older products are prioritized for sale.
  • Utilize equipment such as reach trucks and pallet jacks for product movement and stocking.
  • Employ computer programs like Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as proprietary software as needed.
  • Ensure products are accessible, visually appealing, and consistently available.
  • Assist with price adjustments as directed by the Pricing Lead and Store Management. Participate in store opening and closing duties, as well as inventory and cycle counts as required.

Customer Service:

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for both staff and customers by adhering to safety policies and practices.
  • Report any safety concerns to store management and address them when possible.
  • Ensure cleanliness in the sales area, front end, and restrooms, utilizing cleaning equipment as necessary.
  • Keep the parking lot and store entrance tidy.
  • Collect shopping carts from the parking lot and designated areas, ensuring they are clean and functional.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, you may be assigned other tasks as directed by Store Management.

  • Internal: Interaction with employees at all levels within the organization. External: Interaction with customers and other service and product providers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is conducted in a retail store setting, open to the public, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
  • Work is primarily performed on a level surface, though the use of ladders or elevated surfaces may be necessary.
  • Temperature may vary throughout the store, ranging from -10 to 85 degrees.
  • Physical interaction with customers is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6-12 months of retail cashier and/or stocking experience is required.
  • One year of retail sales and/or customer service experience is preferred.

EDUCATION

  • A high school diploma or equivalent work experience is required.
