Engineering Technician Role at City of Hermosa Beach

Under general supervision, the Engineering Technician plays a crucial role in various areas, including:

  • Civil engineering design
  • Public works permitting, inspection, and administration
  • Technical engineering assistance
  • Computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Geographic information systems (GIS)

The Engineering Technician will also support clerical functions and undertake other related responsibilities as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing the public counter to issue permits and assist the public with inquiries regarding public works
  • Drafting correspondence and memorandums in response to various matters
  • Reviewing and preparing reports and documentation
  • Conducting field inspections
  • Establishing processes for the organization of project documentation
  • Providing general administrative assistance
  • Supporting office operations as necessary
Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of civil engineering principles, field surveying, design drafting, and basic construction inspection
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to maintain accurate and organized filing systems and records
  • Capability to follow instructions, deliver excellent customer service, and build effective working relationships

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent with coursework in engineering or a related field
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline
  • Prior experience in civil engineering or public works construction is advantageous

Licenses/Certificates:

A valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record is required.
