Job Title: Senior Engineer

Job Summary:

The City of Hermosa Beach is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating complex civil engineering assignments and other related duties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex professional civil engineering duties involved in the design, development, and construction management of capital improvement projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and review the work of staff responsible for performing professional engineering work and administrative functions.
  • Monitor activities of the work unit and recommend staffing needs for assigned activities and projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, construction estimates, and construction bid documents for public works projects.
  • Inspect work in the field by contractors, developers, and utility providers.
  • Issue permits as required and ensure compliance and conformance with scope of work standards and specifications.
  • Assist with planning, budgeting, and administration of the city-wide Capital Improvement Program, Public Works operating budget, and associated projects.
  • Evaluate proposals and recommend project award.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts after award.
  • Ensure consultant/contractor compliance with City standards, specifications, and budget.
  • Prepare staff reports and presentation materials for City Council, Public Works Commission, and other public meetings.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in professional civil engineering work in Public Works or municipal engineering.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid California Driver's License with a safe driving record.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid certificate or registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
Working Environment:

The work environment is primarily in a standard office setting with some travel to different sites. The physical demands of the job require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting, stand or sit for prolonged periods, and occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
