Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cultural Resource Management Specialist to join our team in the Coastal Division. As an Associate State Archaeologist, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating archeological investigations and cultural resource management projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct archeological investigations and cultural resource management projects in accordance with Public Resources Codes Section 5024 and the California Environmental Quality Act.
  • Provide research data and advice to support decision-making and policy development.
  • Act as the tribal liaison for the District, coordinating consultations with Native American groups and individuals.
  • Prepare and submit project budget requests.
  • May act in a lead capacity and train departmental staff and other personnel in archeological methods and cultural resources management techniques.
  • Represent the Department in cultural resource matters at meetings with governmental entities, educational institutions, and other groups.

Working Conditions

The incumbent may work outdoors in a sand dune environment, characterized by cold and heat, frequent winds, blowing sand and dust, insects, and intense off-highway vehicle activity. The position requires driving on loose sand and operating off-road vehicles and equipment. Work may expose the incumbent to noise, dust, fumes, extreme wind, hot and cold temperatures, and unpleasant odors. Work at elevated heights or near machinery and heavy equipment or traffic is possible.

Requirements

  • A valid California Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • A Background Investigation must be cleared prior to being hired.
