Senior Mechanical Engineering Specialist

Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 (Depending on Experience) + Bonus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage technical aspects of manufacturing processes, focusing on evaluating and enhancing production methods and equipment capabilities.
  • Oversee a continuous production operation to ensure optimal efficiency and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to support new process development and equipment integration.
  • Engage in hands-on mechanical engineering tasks, demonstrating creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Assist in process engineering and maintenance functions, executing various engineering activities across multiple domains.
  • Utilize root cause and corrective action analysis to address challenges in manufacturing processes.
  • Contribute to the establishment and measurement of process performance metrics related to quality and efficiency.
  • Participate in operational reviews and initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and reducing costs.
  • Plan and execute capital projects and process improvements with minimal supervision.
  • Support targeted projects by defining product and processing parameters, focusing on capability and cost reduction.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot equipment and process issues on the production floor.
  • Ensure compliance with quality systems in manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with various departments including Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance to achieve organizational goals.
  • Address safety and environmental concerns associated with manufacturing operations.
  • Support management in process engineering and facility maintenance activities.
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing equipment and processes, proposing improvement plans.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment and process enhancements through observation and analysis.
  • Engage in brainstorming sessions with the engineering team to explore innovative solutions.
  • Design and implement solutions for recurring issues and optimization opportunities.
  • Define equipment requirements, create 3-D models, and develop testing plans.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and lead process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA).
  • Research vendors, compile parts lists, and ensure timely procurement of components.
  • May lead or assist in the fabrication of parts and equipment, negotiating favorable pricing.
  • Implement engineering improvements and evaluate their effectiveness post-implementation.
  • Oversee the installation of new equipment and assist with qualification processes.
  • Monitor real-time production effects and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Provide training to maintenance teams and machine operators on new equipment functionalities.
  • Conduct regular assessments to maximize implementation effectiveness.
  • Manage engineering projects to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Utilize project management techniques to execute approved engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop project timelines and budget estimates.
  • Establish metrics to evaluate project success and communicate risks to project execution.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to validate the effectiveness of changes and identify further improvements.
  • Apply technical design skills to all engineering drawings and plans.
  • Transform complex concepts into user-friendly, ergonomic designs.
  • Utilize design software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD for conceptual layouts.
  • Participate in ongoing training to maintain and enhance skill sets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or a related field; advanced education is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in design for manufacturing, ideally within the aerospace or composite sectors.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and experienced in 3D and multipart assembly.
  • Experience in mentorship, training, or supervision is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of statistical analysis, process control, project management, and failure analysis methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis, PFMEA, and statistical quality control.
  • Basic understanding of ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics D365 or similar.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Able to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and leadership.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols regarding personal protective equipment.
