Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Labor and Employee Relations, the Labor Relations Manager works as a part of a team with a focus on supporting the mission of the UCSF Health. The incumbent serves as a senior resource and manager to other labor and employee relations staff. The LER Manager provides overall guidance to managers, supervisors, and directors regarding all aspects of the Employee and Labor Relations spectrum; from formal training to grievance handling to specific guidance regarding corrective action for an employee. Recommends, assists in writing, and provides guidance in interpreting and enforcing human resources policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. Reviews and counsels managers and supervisors regarding work-related issues and progressive corrective action in compliance with existing policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and the law. Position reports to the Director of LER. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. Key Responsibilities

  • Provides overall guidance to managers, supervisors, and directors regarding all aspects of the Employee and Labor Relations spectrum.
  • Recommends, assists in writing, and provides guidance in interpreting and enforcing human resources policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Reviews and counsels managers and supervisors regarding work-related issues and progressive corrective action in compliance with existing policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and the law.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of employee relations practices and programs, labor/employment law, and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain professional relationships with medical center department managers as well as other managers in the field.
