About the Program

Fifth Third Bank is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our Commercial and Credit Development Program. As a participant in this program, you will gain hands-on experience in a professional setting, working on real-world projects and developing skills in credit analysis, financial modeling, and underwriting.

Program Objectives

Our 10-week internship program is designed to provide college students with a comprehensive understanding of the commercial banking industry. You will work closely with industry leaders, developing skills in:

  • Analyzing client financial statements
  • Assessing risk
  • Financial modeling and underwriting
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
Responsibilities

As a Commercial and Credit Development Program participant, you will be responsible for:

  • Gaining an understanding of the underwriting process
  • Assessing credit risk using financial statement, cash flow, industry, collateral, guarantor, and loan structure analyses
  • Updating financial covenants as needed
  • Running Probability of Default (PD) model with oversight
  • Partnering with portfolio managers to support daily underwriting and credit monitoring duties
  • Creating client presentation materials using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Identifying and recommending preliminary portfolio management actions using credit service reporting and RADAR with oversight
  • Assisting in identifying and qualifying prospects with relationship managers
  • Partnering with relationship managers to perform projects or analytical tasks as needed
  • Drafting initial deal screen/opportunity memos
  • Building an extensive network of contacts within commercial and supporting divisions
Requirements

To be considered for this internship, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a Business degree (accounting, economics, finance concentrations preferred)
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Possess basic Excel proficiency (data entry, formatting, charts, basic formulas, Vlookup)
  • Have campus involvement/leadership experience
  • Have relevant internship/co-op experience
  • Be able to complete both guided and self-directed learning activities
  • Possess financial and industry acumen
