Key Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Engineer oversees all facets of the Engineering department, ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical systems. This role involves developing, coordinating, and monitoring a maintenance program to guarantee the safety and comfort of all staff and guests. The Chief Engineer will supervise, train, and manage all Engineering personnel.


This industry operates seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Regular attendance in accordance with company standards is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications and Skills:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience in advanced maintenance skills and the ability to manage an engineering department. Familiarity with modern building controls and maintenance is preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office is advantageous. Experience with hotel management systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC. Skilled in the use and repair of common maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport at least 50 pounds and push/pull equipment weighing up to 250 pounds.
  • Capable of performing various physical movements throughout the work environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, management, and coworkers.
  • Must be able to stand and maintain mobility for up to 8 hours. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting inspections of buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance needs.
  • Developing work procedures and assigning tasks to optimize service and productivity.
  • Preparing and submitting cost estimates and repair options, including feasibility and logical solutions for maintenance requests.
  • Collaborating with relevant personnel on maintenance budgeting and long-term planning.
  • Contacting contractors for bid proposals or estimates.
  • Engaging with vendors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and quality for purchases.
  • Receiving and prioritizing work orders to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Managing inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintaining records of work completed, operating statistics, and maintenance costs.
  • Ensuring the security of the building through effective lock and key control.
  • Conducting fire safety training and overseeing emergency procedures until the fire department arrives.
  • Coordinating and conducting fire drills and safety inspections.
  • Regularly inspecting the hotel for necessary repairs.
  • Ensuring all staff are adequately trained.
  • Performing tasks of supervised workers when necessary.
  • Ensuring adherence to preventive maintenance programs.
  • Conducting tests on Fire Alarm/Life Safety Systems.
  • Maximizing operational efficiency regarding energy and utility usage.
  • Maintaining guest confidentiality at all times.
  • Assisting in emergency situations to protect guests and staff, ensuring the building and its systems are preserved.
  • Complying with all departmental and company policies and procedures.
