Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct Computer Science classes for grades K-8.
  • Evaluate evolving curricular needs and propose enhancements.
  • Engage in planning product architecture and development timelines.
  • Foster a vibrant and collaborative classroom environment.
  • Contribute to the development of software programs that enhance student learning.
  • Support faculty and staff through software initiatives.
  • Provide assistance to students outside of class as needed.
  • Act as a project manager for student-led projects.
  • Establish and maintain open, positive communication with parents.
  • Cultivate a classroom culture that encourages active participation in computer science.
  • Commit to learning a new programming language or skill each quarter as part of professional growth.
  • Make direct contributions to technical projects (coding, debugging, reviewing, and deploying code).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Connecticut Teaching Certification for Elementary endorsement (#013) for grades K-8 is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to learn and teach new technologies with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of JavaScript frameworks and libraries, including tools like React, Redux, Webpack, and ES6.
  • Experience with both front-end and back-end application development.
  • Demonstrated success in the classroom.
  • Evidence of self-management and a collaborative spirit.
  • Familiarity with one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, or Go.
  • Experience with modern web frameworks (Vue, Angular, Ember).
  • Experience in mobile application development for iOS and Android.
  • Strong mathematical foundation with knowledge in areas such as statistics, data mining, machine learning, operations research, or natural language processing.
  • Hands-on experience with development projects using Agile methodologies and familiarity with DevOps practices.
  • Proficiency in big data programming languages (e.g., Python, Ruby, Java, Scala).
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of MVC frameworks, such as Ruby on Rails, is a plus.
  • Portfolio site required for consideration.
  • Sample lesson plan submission is required.
  • Preparedness for a coding challenge is expected.

Salary and Benefits
  • Compensation is based on experience and qualifications, with a salary range of $52,205 - $127,712.
