Position Title: Academic Pathway Consultant

This role is designed for individuals who will support students in identifying their academic interests and potential career paths. The Academic Pathway Consultant will engage with students who have not yet declared a major and those who may need guidance in navigating their academic options. Key responsibilities include:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach to students with undeclared majors through structured advising initiatives; analyze and report on the effectiveness of these initiatives.
  • Provide personalized one-on-one consultations with students and their families to explore major and career possibilities.
  • Facilitate multiple sections of courses aimed at aiding students in their major selection process.
  • Administer and interpret assessment tools (such as Focus II, MBTI, SII) to assist students in understanding their strengths and preferences.
  • Co-manage a Residential Learning Community focused on Academic and Career Exploration.

Advising Duties:

  • Deliver comprehensive academic advising to a diverse caseload, primarily targeting first-year students and those transitioning into new academic programs.
  • Guide students through academic challenges and assist them in formulating realistic educational objectives.
  • Evaluate individual student circumstances and connect them with appropriate campus resources.
  • Plan and implement various advising campaigns each semester.
  • Assist with the registration process during orientation for incoming students.

Teaching and Programming:

  • Instruct multiple sections of courses focused on exploring academic majors and decision-making strategies.
  • Engage with students interested in declared majors to discuss their academic journeys.
  • Facilitate the interpretation of assessment results to enhance the decision-making process regarding majors.
  • Co-coordinate the Residential Learning Community, which involves recruitment, teaching, and programming for participants.

Resource Management:

  • Maintain online resources related to academic advising and transfer pathways.
  • Develop and update presentations for orientation sessions aimed at undecided majors.
  • Organize a campus-wide event to showcase available majors.
  • Create and manage resources for academic exploration activities.

Collaboration and Community Engagement:

  • Build and sustain partnerships with academic departments and student services.
  • Collaborate with departments to identify students who may need additional support in meeting academic standards.
  • Act as a resource for faculty and advisors assisting students uncertain about their academic direction.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in university committees as required.
  • Engage with regional and national organizations relevant to academic advising.
  • Manage departmental communications and provide front desk support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required; experience in higher education advising and student support services is essential.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and student information systems is necessary.

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of academic advising experience.
  • Experience with assessment tools used in academic exploration.
  • Familiarity with higher education software systems.
