Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Attorney III to join our team at the City of Chesapeake. The successful candidate will provide high-level legal services to the City and assist with oversight of departmental operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice on complex issues and recommend courses of conduct for City directors, managers, and employees.
  • Review and draft legal documents, including motions, petitions, orders, and contracts.
  • Attend meetings of boards, commissions, and departments to provide legal advice and training.
  • Represent the City's interests at regional, state, and federal agencies and resolve complex issues involving other municipalities and governmental entities.
  • Mediate disputes involving the City or its boards, commissions, or committees.
  • Supervise staff and provide training on Department of Human Services cases, including Social Services, Child Protective Services, and Adult Protective Services.
Requirements:
  • Juris doctorate.
  • Minimum of three years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Law License or eligibility for membership in the Virginia Bar.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City's policies.
