Position Objective: Serve as a Communications Specialist, providing essential editorial support to advance the objectives of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The primary goal is to facilitate the delivery of impactful communication strategies and materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and articulate communication strategies that outline objectives, target audiences, messaging, creative concepts, and necessary clearance processes.
  • Create various communication materials, including press releases, articles, digital content, and scripts for multimedia projects, ensuring adherence to scientific and technical standards.
  • Design visual media elements such as graphics and photographs to enhance communication efforts.
  • Draft scientific messages, talking points, FAQs, and presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Conduct monitoring of social media platforms and online discussions, performing content analysis and summarizing findings.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communication campaigns across traditional and digital media, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Identify and assess relevant articles and online content that impact the program's visibility and effectiveness.
  • Manage website content updates, ensuring security protocols and site settings are maintained.
  • Analyze digital media performance metrics and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Respond to public inquiries and feedback received through various online channels in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate collaboration with media and stakeholders to enhance communication outreach.
  • Document frequently asked questions from public engagements and develop informative materials to address them.
  • Identify content needs and create materials that promote the program's visibility.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with media representatives and external partners.
  • Engage with stakeholders to identify communication gaps and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Participate in national conferences and events to represent the program.
  • Stay informed on current scientific and policy developments through workshops and seminars.
  • Continuously seek improvements in program communication strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for leadership engagement with external organizations through speaking engagements and workshops.
  • Act as a resource for staff regarding program engagement opportunities and challenges.
  • Coordinate program activities at events, providing information to the research community.
  • Ensure effective communication of program and research information to stakeholders through various channels.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant communications experience or two years of specialized experience.
  • Experience with social media platforms is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and content management systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong multitasking abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
