Position Overview

About the Role

This role encompasses advanced accounting responsibilities across various facets of financial reporting, including the formulation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

Moreover, this position offers high-level technical assistance and coordination for the City Treasurer's Office, collaborating effectively with city management and external partners.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

A minimum of five years of experience in accounting, financial cost analysis, financial forecasting, auditing, or a related financial/fiscal function.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be considered.


Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements

All employees of the City of Scottsdale are required to reside in the State of Arizona during their active employment, regardless of remote work approval.

Additional licenses and/or certifications may be necessary for certain positions based on departmental assignments.


Key Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are associated with this position:

  • Conducts financial analysis for special projects and proposals directed to management.
  • Researches and provides guidance on the implications of new Governmental Accounting Standards Board pronouncements and oversees their implementation.
  • Prepares and coordinates various periodic reports, including the City's Comprehensive Financial Report for management review.
  • Manages the financial oversight and administration of assigned contractual agreements.
  • Participates in the design, implementation, and enhancement of new accounting systems to bolster fiscal management capabilities.
  • Maintains a diverse array of complex accounting records and subsidiary systems.
  • Acts as a consultant to city departments, assisting in various financial analyses and offering training and guidance on finance and accounting matters.
  • Researches and addresses financial inquiries from citizens, senior management, and staff from other municipalities as needed.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Work is conducted in a city office environment.

Employees may need to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

Operation of various standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, copiers, and fax machines, requires continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
