We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel I/II to join our team at Portland General Electric. As a key member of our Governance and Compliance Practice Group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company's interests are effectively represented in complex regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities- Regulatory Compliance: Provide legal counsel to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including SEC filings, insider trading compliance, and entity management.
- Business Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks, leveraging existing policies, procedures, and guidelines to make recommendations on approaches to specific issues assigned.
- Outside Counsel Management: Recommend and oversee outside counsel as needed, proposing budgets and monitoring work performed to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service.
- Legal Document Preparation: Leverage existing templates and contracts to prepare and/or review routine written legal documents, providing legal analyses, interpretations, and recommendations in compliance with policies and laws.
- Process Improvement: Identify and recommend areas for improvement, providing input on strategy and goals of the practice group and department as a whole.
- Internal Communications: Provide legal updates, opinions, and advice to internal stakeholders related to issues assigned.
- External Representation: Represent and advocate for PGE interests to governmental agencies, counterparties, and third parties, soliciting assistance/information and obtaining authorizations for company business activities.
- Education: Juris Doctor degree.
- Experience: Four or more years in a related field.
- Certifications/Licenses: Admitted to the Oregon State Bar.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and legal practice in areas assigned.
- Problem-Solving: Basic skills in identifying risk, problem-solving, and strategic thinking in nonroutine operations and ambiguous situations.
- Communication: Working skills in distilling complex legal concepts and issues in a manner to make them understandable to nonlegal specialists up and down the corporate reporting chain.
- Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of the utility industry, market, and politics.
- Business Acumen: Basic knowledge of and support for PGE's policies, practices, philosophy, business model, regulatory regime, and financial reporting requirements.
This role requires the ability to work long hours, variable schedules, and report to work during periods of severe inclement weather. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate sound memory, process new information, and apply it consistently to work tasks.
