Job Summary

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant General Counsel II to join our Commercial and Regulatory Group. As a trusted advisor, you'll provide legal counsel on state and federal regulatory issues, ensuring our company's interests are effectively represented. Your expertise will be invaluable in developing and recommending company positions on legal issues, mitigating potential legal risk, and providing commercial, regulatory, and compliance legal support for our power operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel on state and federal regulatory issues, ensuring company interests are effectively represented.
  • Develop and recommend company positions on legal issues to further the company's legal interests and mitigate potential legal risk.
  • Provide commercial, regulatory, and compliance legal support for power operations (energy trading).
  • Identify and assess legal, business, and regulatory risks and offer steps to comply and mitigate risk.
  • Prepare and review written legal contracts, documents, and provide legal analyses, interpretations, and recommendations in compliance with policies and laws.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies within the Legal department.
  • Contribute to the overall strategy and goals of specific business partners, the practice group, and department as a whole.
  • Represent and advocate for PGE's interests to governmental agencies, counter-parties, and third parties.
  • Select outside counsel as needed and oversee outside counsel to ensure cost-effective and high-quality legal representation.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Typically three to seven years practicing in connection with commercial, state regulatory, or FERC matters.
  • Admitted to the Oregon State Bar (or able to be admitted within six months of employment).
Competencies
  • Intermediate knowledge of particular laws, regulations, and legal practice in multiple practice areas.
  • Working skills in identifying risk, problem-solving, and strategic thinking in non-routine operations and ambiguous situations.
  • Intermediate skills in distilling complex legal concepts and issues in a manner to make them understandable to non-legal specialists up and down the corporate reporting chain.
  • Working skills in understanding and supporting the technical needs of a regulated utility and advocating for the company to advance its position or interests.
  • Working legal research and writing skills to analyze, interpret, and summarize, as well as draft, complex legal documents.
  • Working knowledge of the utility industry, market, and politics.
  • Working knowledge of and support for PGE's policies, practices, philosophy, business model, regulatory regime, and financial reporting requirements.

Environment

Office/Hybrid/Travel within PGE Service Territory. PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of in-the-office and working offsite, however, these arrangements may need to change due to business needs or changes in responsibility.

Compensation Range

$119,775.00 - $231,750.00. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance-based incentive bonus. Actual total compensation is commensurate with experience, skills, and education.
