About the Role

Portland General Electric is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant General Counsel to join our Governance and Compliance Practice Group. As a key member of our legal team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company's interests are effectively represented in complex legal matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel on complex issues, using precedent to develop and recommend company positions to mitigate potential legal risk.
  • Identify and assess legal risks, leveraging existing policies, procedures, and guidelines to make recommendations on approaches to specific issues.
  • Recommend and oversee outside counsel, proposing budgets and monitoring work performed to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service.
  • Prepare and review routine written legal documents, providing legal analyses, interpretations, and recommendations in compliance with policies and laws.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide input on strategy and goals of the practice group and department.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Four or more years of experience in a related field.
  • Admitted to the Oregon State Bar.
Competencies
  • Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and legal practice in areas assigned.
  • Basic skills in identifying risk, problem-solving, and strategic thinking in non-routine operations and ambiguous situations.
  • Working skills in distilling complex legal concepts and issues in a manner to make them understandable to non-legal specialists.
