About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented GIS Analyst Intern to join our team at WSP USA. As a GIS Analyst Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects related to environmental consulting, climate resiliency, and sustainability.

Responsibilities
  • Perform flood risk analysis, mapping, and related services on FEMA projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Northeast U.S. regions.
  • Learn basic principles of GIS database development, qualitative/quantitative analysis, and mapping as a member of a local and regional water resources team.
  • Compile, manipulate, and refine geographic data from a variety of sources, including hydraulic models, field collection, satellite/aerial imagery, public domain data, and existing maps.
  • Produce detailed, high-quality cartographic products and accompanying reports in accordance with technical guidelines and client needs.
  • Collaborate with team members on project tasks related to GIS, database design and management, and data visualization.
  • Customize GIS workflow and software programs for data collection, engineering, and environmental applications.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
Requirements
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or related undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2025 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Geographic Information Systems or related field, and a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
  • Experience using ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
