At the City of New York, we are committed to providing comprehensive support services to survivors of domestic violence and their families. As a Domestic Violence Liaison Specialist - Public Assistance, you will play a critical role in determining eligibility for public assistance and providing essential resources to those in need.

About the Role

This position is part of the Domestic Violence Liaison Division, where you will work closely with clients, social service agencies, and community-based organizations to provide timely and accurate assistance. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Determining eligibility for public assistance and conducting thorough interviews to determine continued financial eligibility
  • Informing participants about time-limited benefits and objectives of the program aimed at overcoming barriers to employment and independent living
  • Providing information about transitional benefits to encourage financial independence through employment
  • Identifying and providing special and/or emergency needs in a timely manner
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Completion of 30 semester credits at an accredited college or university, or a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in areas such as interviewing, gathering information, and preparing necessary documentation for public assistance or unemployment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
