The Senior Fire Safety Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting our proactive flight safety initiatives, engaging in field assessments, and conducting comprehensive safety evaluations. This position necessitates collaboration with a wide array of engineering and business teams, both within and outside of GE Renewable Energy.

A robust Flight Safety program is essential for the success of our operations and our clients. As part of the Chief Engineers Office, our Flight Safety & Reliability Engineers deliver independent, data-informed leadership across all commercial aircraft engine projects.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties
  • Contribute to the proactive management strategy for Flight Safety at GE Renewable Energy, addressing complex challenges with a focus on fire safety.
  • Assist in proactive evaluations and fire hazard mitigation strategies, including root cause analyses and risk assessments in collaboration with engineering and project teams.
  • Support flight safety initiatives, field investigations, and safety evaluations.
  • Enhance Flight Safety and fire safety measures for new aircraft engine designs, ensuring compliance with technical and program specifications.
  • Generate and present statistical analyses of fleet risk in accordance with established GE Renewable Energy protocols.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects, adhering to engineering standards and practices.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, business challenges, and significant developments.
  • Lead or participate in organizational efforts related to assigned projects and tasks.
  • Engage in technical and program reviews addressing Flight Safety and Reliability concerns.
  • Advocate for fire prevention and safety in engine designs, serving as the fire safety subject matter expert for new engine development initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Practical knowledge of fire behavior in both metallic and non-metallic materials.
Preferred Attributes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to analyze and resolve issues. Competence in documenting, planning, marketing, and executing programs. Established project management capabilities.
  • Degree in Fire Protection Engineering with the ability to develop analytical models (heat transfer/fluid flow) to support investigations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of combustion, explosion dynamics, fire modeling, and fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Familiarity with aircraft fire safety regulations and a willingness to learn about FAR/EASA fire regulations.
  • Experience with engine and aircraft certification processes.
  • Knowledge of commercial aircraft engine programs, customer interactions, and operational procedures.
  • Understanding of aircraft engine mechanical, control, and/or aerodynamic systems.
  • Experience in investigating engine components or systems and determining root causes.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Capability to guide and influence others, networking with specialists.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis and logical presentation of findings.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Process-oriented with a data-driven approach to technical tasks.
  • Experience with database applications.
  • Willingness to expand knowledge and skills in risk assessment.
  • Ability to represent GE Renewable Energy at customer reviews and safety groups to address propulsion system safety matters.
  • Hands-on experience and a proactive attitude.
