Position Summary
The Senior Engineer in Fire Safety will play a crucial role in supporting proactive flight safety initiatives, engaging in field investigations, and conducting safety evaluations. This position necessitates collaboration with a wide array of business and engineering teams, both within and outside of GE Aerospace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the proactive management strategy for Flight Safety at GE Aerospace, focusing on complex fire safety challenges.
  • Assist in proactive evaluations and fire hazard mitigation strategies, including root cause analyses and risk assessments in collaboration with engineering and project teams.
  • Support proactive flight safety initiatives, field investigations, and comprehensive safety evaluations.
  • Enhance Flight Safety and fire safety advancements for new aircraft engine designs, ensuring alignment with technical and program specifications.
  • Generate and present statistical analyses of fleet risk in accordance with established GE Aerospace policies and procedures.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of technical data produced for assigned projects, adhering to engineering standards and protocols.
  • Monitor and relay project progress, business challenges, and significant updates.
  • Lead or engage in organizational efforts related to assigned projects and tasks.
  • Participate in technical and program reviews addressing Flight Safety and Reliability matters.
  • Advocate for fire prevention and safety in engine designs, serving as the fire safety expert for new engine development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in an engineering capacity.
  • Practical knowledge of fire behavior in both metallic and non-metallic materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Capability to develop analytical models (heat transfer/fluid flow) to support investigations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of combustion, explosion dynamics, fire modeling, and detection and suppression systems.
  • Familiarity with aircraft fire safety regulations and a willingness to learn about FAR/EASA standards.
  • Experience with engine and aircraft certification processes.
  • Knowledge of commercial aircraft engine programs and operations.
  • Understanding of aircraft engine mechanical, control, and aerodynamic systems.
  • Experience in investigating engine components or systems and determining root causes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to guide and influence others while networking with specialists.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Proven capability in statistical data analysis and logical presentation of findings.
  • Strong computer proficiency and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated process orientation and data-driven approach to technical tasks.
  • Experience with database applications.
  • Willingness to expand knowledge and skills in risk assessment.
  • Ability to represent GE Aviation in customer reviews and safety groups addressing propulsion system safety issues.
  • Hands-on experience and a proactive attitude.
