Position Overview

The Patient Access Specialist II is responsible for facilitating the smooth and organized admission process for both inpatient and outpatient services. This role ensures that precise patient information is gathered and that individuals are informed about hospital policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Register all patients in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Accurately complete all necessary admission forms, including consent documentation.
  • Verify medical record status using the Master Patient Index function prior to data entry.
  • Prepare financial folders for patients and ensure distribution to relevant departments.
  • Contact physician offices to gather essential pre-admission information.
  • Ensure patients have the required authorizations for scheduled procedures.
  • Explain hospital policies regarding payment for services, collect payments, and issue receipts.
  • Request and verify identification and insurance cards during the admission process.
  • Provide each patient with an identification bracelet upon admission.
  • Operate the PBX system, managing incoming calls and transferring them to the appropriate departments.
  • Perform paging duties and announce hospital emergency codes as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an admitting office or as a PBX operator.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient in computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills suitable for the role.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus for effective communication with patients and families.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
