Role Responsibilities

The Assistant Sensory Research Scientist plays a vital role in supporting the execution of our Passion for Taste program under the supervision of the Sensory Manager. Key responsibilities include:

  • Organizing weekly Sensory Expert Panels: preparing surveys and samples, setting up tasting sessions, and generating technical reports using appropriate statistical methodologies.
  • Facilitating training for various dairy products with the Sensory Expert Panels and recommending strategies to enhance panel qualifications across all sensory attributes.
  • Conducting periodic evaluations of Sensory Expert Panel performance and assisting in the recruitment of new panelists in accordance with global guidelines.
  • Compiling monthly technical reports on product performance for submission to internal quality assurance and cross-functional teams.
  • Maintaining an updated database of product tests, panel selection, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Acquiring commercially available dairy products weekly for sensory evaluations and functionality testing.
  • Providing attendance records for panelists to the accounts payable team for compensation and submitting expense reports for sample purchases.
  • Assisting manufacturing facilities in implementing and sustaining Factory Sensory Panels, including training coordinators and creating standard operating procedures.
  • Notifying quality teams of any adverse trends in product performance from both expert and factory-trained panels.
  • Supporting the Marketing Department during consumer testing and ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Collaborating with R&D and Marketing teams to provide technical guidance and sensory evaluations for special projects.
  • Assisting with product functionality evaluations and recipe development as required.
  • Coordinating with leadership to organize monthly product tasting sessions.
  • Traveling to manufacturing sites as necessary to support Factory Sensory Panels and engage with quality directors.
  • Providing technical assistance during investigations related to quality issues or special projects.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher preferred; or equivalent experience with a minimum of five years in a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in the food industry, with a background in sensory testing and result interpretation.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Strong understanding of statistical methods.
  • Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize tasks, and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
