Senior Research Scientist in Cannabis Studies

Position Overview:
This role requires a highly skilled individual with a strong background in research, particularly in the field of cannabis studies. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of cannabis pharmacology and its implications for health.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree accompanied by five years of relevant professional research experience in fields such as environmental science, pharmacy, public health, or natural sciences is essential.
OR
A master's degree in Environmental Science or Natural Sciences with four years of pertinent research experience is acceptable.
OR
A doctoral degree in the same fields along with four years of relevant research experience is also valid.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Health & Safety, the Senior Research Scientist will:
- Conduct and oversee scientific research studies led by the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM).
- Lead the formulation and design of research protocols, documentation, and analytical tools.
- Develop health and safety surveys related to cannabis and assist in data analysis.
- Provide education and training on medical cannabis and its scientific basis to external stakeholders, utilizing peer-reviewed, evidence-based data.
- Review scientific data and methodologies submitted to OCM.
- Act as a subject matter expert in cannabis science for the development of educational content.
- Address inquiries of a clinical nature regarding cannabis and its products.
- Stay informed on federal cannabis activities, scientific literature, and clinical trials, providing recommendations to senior leadership.
- Draft regulatory documents, research reports, and publications for external audiences.
- Present research findings at conferences and meetings.
- Facilitate meetings with external stakeholders.
- Perform supervisory functions as required.
Additional Information:
Travel may be necessary (approximately 10%), including evenings and weekends, depending on assignments. A valid Driver's License is required, or the ability to meet transportation needs for the role.
